EXPERIENCES
Discover two magical places in just one day. Covering an area of 1374 km² the Jaragua National Park is the largest national park in the Dominican Republic and convinces with its variety of ecosystems. Both the Oviedo Lagoon as well as the beach of Bahia de las Aguilas can be found here. Drive along the scenic costal road via San Rafael, Paraiso and Los Patos, through the national park heading to Cabo Rojo, where a boat awaits you. After a 15-minute ride with the boat you will be reaching the beautiful and isolated Bahía de las Águilas, which is considered to be the most beautiful beach in the country. You have the chance to go swimming or just relax. Enjoy the pristine white sand of this 8 km long beach. On the way back stop for lunch. Continue to Oviedo a small village before reaching the Oviedo Lagoon. Go on a trip to the iguana island and enjoy an amazing panoramic view from a scenic outpost.
You will be picked up from your hotel at 7:30 a.m. and then travel northwest. During the approximately two-hour drive to Lake Enriquillo, you will stop at a scenic viewpoint that is ideal for capturing impressive landscape photographs. Lake Enriquillo is one of the country’s most striking natural landscapes and lies about 40 metres below sea level. The region is characterized by a hot, dry climate, yet springs and small rivers make certain areas surprisingly fertile. You will then take a boat trip on the lake, heading first to a section of the shoreline where there is a good chance of observing crocodiles in their natural habitat. On the return journey, you will visit the village of Neyba, known for its wine production, as well as Las Marías, a popular gathering place for locals. Here, you will enjoy a traditional local lunch. Afterwards, your driver will take you back to your hotel in a relaxed manner.
Enjoy a day at the beach and let your spirits flow, far away from the touristy areas and all the stress. Come and discover the Jaragua National park and Bahia de las Águilas. Drive along a beautiful road with breathtaking views of the small port and fishing village Cabo Rojo. In Las Cuevas you board a boat that takes you on a 15-minute ride to one of the most beautiful natural beaches of the world. The sands of Bahía de las Aguilas is pristine and the bay covers 8 km. Experience an exceptional coastal landscape with crystal clear water shining in shades reaching from turquoise to opal-blue melting into the horizon. Go swimming or snorkeling and explore this untouched natural paradise, before enjoying a typical lunch on the way back.
Explore the Oviedo Lagoon, one of the biggest treasures of the Jaragua National Park and home to a variety of wildlife. The Lagoon consists of 24 islands of different sizes and vegetation and is considered to be the best place for aquatic bird observation on the island. Discover the beauty of the Oviedo lagoon on a boat ride through this unique ecosystem. Make a stop on one of the many islands, so called Iguana Island. Go on a hike across the small island through a somewhat barren landscape where cacti dominate the scenery. Once you arrive on a scenic outpost take some time to appreciate the beautiful view over the lagoon, the Caribbean Sea, the Jaragua national park and the mountains of Bahoruco. On the way back to the hotel you make a stop in Los Patos where you enjoy a typical lunch and can take a refreshing dip in the river.
